Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary
It is quite relevant that these days we humans are thinking very hard about saving wildlife and using forest and wildlife of marine products that is the necessity to us sustainably. The humankind thoroughly depends upon nature for the every surviving day of their dear livelihood. But as we are getting more and more industry-minded day by day and taking a monstrous amount of treasure out of nature for our own use, we are not realizing that we are killing the nature around us slowly. Apart from the greater wildlife Sanctuaries of Kaziranga, Manas National Park, the small but with a varied miscellany of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most important wildlife sanctuaries in India.
Situated at a distance of 45 kilometers from the city of Guwahati, Pobitora is located on the bank of the river Brahmaputra, the life-giving river of the northeastern India. Standing beside India’s magic capital, Mayong, this Wildlife Sanctuary of Pobitora has earned its fame by breeding an overpopulating number of the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros. These species are a special attraction for the tourists and travelers here. Many people from inside the country come to see these proud animals in the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. A good number of people from outside India also come to get the experience of this appealing Wildlife Sanctuary of Pobitora. Not only the outnumbered population of the One-Horned Rhinos, Pobitora is also famous for South Asian fresh water Dolphins. Called to be the Gangetic Dolphins originally, these beautiful creatures almost have vanished from sight in the river Ganga because of its immeasurable water pollution. Now the only home for these fragile mammals is the still unpolluted water of the Brahmaputra where they can be seen. Extraordinarily shy in nature, these Dolphins come above the water surface very rarely and thereof, is merely visible for a glimpse or two. The Pobitra Wildlife Sanctuary is also popular for its diverse asset of a variety of flora and fauna. There is also the Oriental Pied Hornbills, Pelicans and many other rare inhabitants and migratory birds to be watched over. The grassland of Pobitora welcomes its visitors during the whole year and remains to be a great experience and pleasure trip for the travelers.
